French Comic Artist Riad Sattouf Will Attend Talk Event with Dragon Head's Minetarō Mochizuki

French comic artist Riad Sattouf and manga creator Minetarō Mochizuki will participate in talk event at the Kyoto International Manga Museum on October 13. The talk event's theme is "From Reality to the Real World" and is organized by the Institut Francais as part of its "An Autumn of Reading: Bande Dessinée Weekend in Kansai" programming.

Mochizuki has received acclaim both inside and outside of Japan for his Chiisakobee manga. The manga is based on Shūgorō Yamamoto's historical novel Chiisakobe, which centers on a young carpenter who cares for children orphaned by a large fire the capital city of Edo. The novel follows the carpenter as he rebuilds after the fire and cares for the children. The novel was adapted into a live-action film in 1962.

Sattouf's The Arab of the Future comic won the grand prize at the Angouleme International Manga Festival in 2015. He also directed the film successful French film The French Kissers (Les Beaux Gosses) in 2009 followed by the comedy Jacky in Women's Kingdom (Jacky au royaume des filles) in 2014.

Participation is free and tickets will be distributed beginning on 10:00 a.m.
