Nana Mizuki Cancels Hong Kong Concert Due to Area's Turbulent State

posted on by Kim Morrissy
Clashes between police and pro-democracy protestors have been escalating since June

Voice actress and singer Nana Mizuki has cancelled her concert in Hong Kong's Kitec Star Hall, which was originally scheduled for October 26. An official notice was posted on Mizuki's official website on Friday regarding the cancellation and refunds. The notice explained that it was putting the safety of the fans, performers, and staff first, and that the event was cancelled due to "problems regarding access to the Hong Kong venue, as well as the possibility of other unforeseen events happening."

The notice stressed that those involved with the concert have a strong desire to perform in Hong Kong in the "not so distant future."

Those who purchased tickets with a credit card will have the money automatically returned within 45 business days. The notice gave instructions on how to get a refund for those who purchased with cash.

Hong Kong has been in a turbulent state for the past few months, as hundreds of thousands of pro-democracy protesters have mobilized in protest against an extradition bill proposed by the Hong Kong government. Clashes between the police and activists have been escalating within the past weeks amid concerns of police brutality. Flights at the Hong Kong International Airport have been repeatedly disrupted.

Nana Mizuki is a prolific singer and voice actress and her own concerts have included amazing costumes. She made her voice-acting debut in the 1997 romance simulation game NOeL. Her singles, albums, and Blu-ray Discs have topped Oricon's ranking charts. Mizuki's anime roles include Naruto's Hinata Hyūga, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha's Fate Testarossa, Minami-ke's Tōma Minami, WWW.WAGNARIA!!'s Kisaki Kondō, and Dog Days Ricotta Elmar.
