Voice Actress, Singer Tomo Sakurai Worked at Noodle Shop During Career Hiatus

Tomo Sakurai spent her two-year career retirement working at a noodle shop.

The 48-year-old voice actress and singer talked about her stint outside of the entertainment industry in an interview in FLASH magazine's September 10 issue. Sakurai told the magazine that she spent her time working in a soba shop, hitting the hot yoga studio daily, jogging, and getting enough sleep.

Sakurai debuted in 1987 as a member of the three-person idol unit “Lemon Angel”. After that, she began working as a voice actor and appeared in numerous anime including Macross 7, Rurouni Kenshin, El Hazard, Saint Tail, and Gintama' She announced her retirement in 2016, stating that it had become difficult for her to use her voice. She announced her return to the entertainment industry in May.

Sakurai will hold her first live performance since her retirement on November 16. Tickets will go on sale on September 27.
