Ghibli on London Underground

Ponyo and Porco Rosso art spotted at Canning Town station

Any ANN readers in London should keep an eye out for Studio Ghibli characters on the London Underground. (Do Totoro take the Tube, we wonder?) These images were spotted at Canning Town Station yesterday, and were Tweeted by Anisa Sanusi, who very kindly permitted ANN to reproduce her pictures. They depict Ponyo (top right), Porco Rosso (left) and Porco's bubbly friend Fio (bottom right).

The pictures are signed @TownTube, which is an account named "CanningTownTube." On the account, you'll find more artwork, ranging from The Nightmare Before Christmas to My Hero Academia.

Canning Town is a station familiar to many anime fans, especially cosplayers. In non-Covid times, every May and October sees hordes of cosplayers, many dressed as anime characters, pour through the station on the way to the bi-annual MCM Comic London at the ExCel Centre a couple of stops away. (Canning Town station is a transfer point between the London Underground and the Docklands Light Railway.)

Sadly, there's no event this May, given the Covid situation - the events in 2020 were both cancelled as well. However, Comic Con is currently hoping to run an event in London this winter, from October 22 to 24.
