Genshin Impact Mobile Game Brings In US$2 Billion Worldwide

Game made approximately half of its earnings in its first six months on the market

Studio miHoYo's open-world action-RPG Genshin Impact has raked in US$2 billion worldwide in mobile store transactions in a single year, according to mobile app data analysis organization Sensor Tower. Approximately half of that money was made in the game's first six months on the market. The game initially launched on September 28, 2020 and became the third highest mobile money maker globally, behind Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile.

Much of Genshin Impact's customers are based in China and over a quarter of its first year earnings (US$577 million) came from the Chinese player market on iOS devices. That share could be more--Sensor Tower does not track data from third-party Android stores. Japan was the second highest player market with 23.7 percent, followed by U.S. players who accounted for 21 percent.

Genshin Impact is a free to play mobile game, although there are certainly perks for players that wish to fork out some cash for its gacha element. The game is also available on PC and PlayStation 4 and 5.
