Inuyasha Sketch Auctioned to Help African Kids Orphaned by AIDS

Manga creator Rumiko Takahashi's original autographed illustration of Inuyasha's title character brought in 1,833,000 yen (about US$11,440) at the auction block on Sunday. PLAS, a non-governmental organization supporting African children orphaned by AIDS, held the sale as part of its current round of charity auctions. Takahashi said in a statement through PLAS that she hopes the donation will help the children.

This isn't the first time Takahashi has participated in a PLAS charity auction. The manga creator took part in an earlier set of auctions that PLAS ran from March to September 2023. Takahashi provided another autographed illustration of Inuyasha which sold for 1,001,000 yen (about US$6,250).

Takahashi serialized Inuyasha in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine between November 1996 and June 2008. The manga series inspired an anime series which aired from October 2000 to September 2004. A followup series aired between October 2009 and April 2010.

A sequel anime series, Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, ran from October 2020 until March 2021, and a second season then aired between October 2021 and March 2022. Takashi Shiina adapted this sequel anime into its own manga series that ran in Shogakukan's Shōnen Sunday S magazine from September 2021 until June 2025.
