Tokyopop Licenses The Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation, Love Stories Manga

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The Fox and the Little Tanuki; The Apple, the Rose, and the Vampire also licensed

Tokyopop announced during its New York Comic Panel on Thursday that it has licensed The Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation; The Fox and the Little Tanuki; Love Stories; and The Apple, the Rose, and the Vampire manga.

The company will also begin offering new collector's editions for the Aria: The Masterpiece, Tarot Cafe, Bizenghast, Dark Metro, and Grimms Manga Tales manga.

Tokyopop describes Misaki and Momochi's The Gentle Noble's Vacation Recommendation (Odayaka Kizoku no Kyūka Susume) manga:

When Lizel finds himself in a city that bears odd similarities to his own but clearly isn't, he quickly comes to terms with the unlikely truth: this is an entirely different world. Even so, laid-back Lizel isn't the type to panic. He immediately sets out to learn more about this strange place, and to help him do so, hires a seasoned adventurer named Gil as his tour guide and protector.

Until he's able to find a way home, Lizel figures this is a perfect opportunity to explore a new way of life adventuring as part of a guild. After all, he's sure he'll go home eventually... might as well enjoy the otherworldly vacation for now!

The manga adapts Misaki's novels of the same name, and credits 8KEY for story composition and Sando for the novel's original character art. TO Books published the manga's first compiled book volume on June 1, and will publish the second volume on November 1.

Misaki began serializing the novel in the "Shōsetsuka ni Narō" (Let's Become Novelists) website in 2014 with the title Kyūka to Omotte Tanoshimimasu (I'll Have Fun With This as a Vacation). TO Books began publishing the novels in print with art by Sando in June 2018, and it published the sixth volume on August 10.

Tokyopop describes Mi Tagawa's The Fox and the Little Tanuki (Kori Senman):

Long ago, the gods granted a few animals great powers... but not all those animals used their magical abilities for good! Senzou the Fox Spirit in particular grew too brash and arrogant, abusing his strength until he was imprisoned for his bad behavior.

After 300 years he's finally been released, but only on one condition — no more powers until he successfully helps a tanuki cub named Manpachi become an assistant to the gods. And so... Senzou the once-great Fox Spirit must now figure out how to be an actually-great babysitter to a mischievous little tanuki or risk being stuck without his powers forever!

Tagawa launched the manga on Mag Garden's MAGCOMI website in July 2018. Mag Garden published the manga's first compiled book volume on March 14.

Tokyopop describes Tohru Tagura's Koimonogatari: Love Stories (Koimonogatari) manga:

When Yuji accidentally hears his classmate Yamato confessing to another friend that he's gay, his perspective shifts. Seeing Yamato in a new light, Yuji does his best not to let prejudice color his view, but he still finds himself overthinking his classmates' interactions now. He especially notices the way Yamato looks at one particular boy: Yuji's own best friend.

Even though he tells himself not to get involved, Yuji finds he just can't help it: watching Yamato's one-sided love draws him in a way he never expected. At first, it's empathy, knowing that the boy Yamato has his sights on is definitely straight and has no idea. But as his own friendship with Yamato develops and the two of them grow closer through a mutual study group, Yuji comes to truly care about Yamato as a person, regardless of his sexuality.

Gentosha published the manga's first compiled book volume on June 2015, and published the second compiled book volume in August 2018.

Tokyopop describes Shinya Shinya's The Apple, the Rose, and the Vampire (Ringo to Bara to Kyūketsuki (Kari)) manga:

Arika is what you could charitably call a vampire "enthusiast." When she stumbles across the beautiful and mysterious vampire Divo however, her excitement quickly turns to disappointment as she discovers he's not exactly like the seductive, manipulative villains in her stories. His looks win first place, but his head's a space case.

Armed with her extensive knowledge of vampire lore, Ariko downgrades Divo to a beta vampire and begins their long, long... long journey to educate him in the ways of the undead.

Shinya launched the manga in Mag Garden's Monthly Comic Garden magazine on January 5. Mag Garden published the manga's first compiled book volume on July 13.

Update: Tokyopop clarified with ANN that the new collector's editions for the Aria: The Masterpiece, Tarot Cafe, Bizenghast, Dark Metro, and Grimms Manga Tales manga were not new announcements, but were highlighted at the panel.
