Madoka Magica's Magia Record RPG App Gets 2019 TV Anime

posted on by Egan Loo
Smartphone game spinoff already inspired manga, stage play

Magia Day 2018, an event marking the first anniversary of the Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story (Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Gaiden) smartphone role-playing game, announced on Saturday that a television anime adaptation of the game has been green-lit for next year. The event presented a teaser promotional video and a teaser visual. (Note: The official linked video is region-locked to Japan. A region-free version is below.)

The tagline on the visual is the same as the game: "A meeting between the girls weaves a new story."

The game's story, a spinoff of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime, takes place in the burgeoning city of Kamihama. Guided by a strange power, magical girls gather in this town and battle with a new power drawn from witches. Iroha Tamaki arrives in this town and joins other magical girls to search for her missing younger sister Ui. Before long, Homura Akemi also arrives in the town. "If I can understand the mystery of this town, maybe I can save Kaname."

The new character Iroha Tamaki (voiced by Momo Asakura) becomes a magical girl with a wish to save her sister from illness. Madoka Kaname (again voiced by Aoi Yūki) also arrives in Kamihama to search for her missing friend Homura.

The game's staff includes:

Original Work: Magica Quartet
Original Character Design: Ume Aoki
Original Witch Design: Gekidan Inu Curry
Opening Animation: SHAFT
Development: f4samurai

TrySail performs the theme song "Kakawari" (Connection) for the game. The game is free to play, but the app charges for certain contents.

The game launched for iOS and Android devices in August 2017. The game is also inspiring a manga and a stage play adaptation that is running from August to September. The cast members are all members of the Keyakizaka46 idol group.
