Gakuen Alice Manga's Last Chapter Being Prepared

Tachibana Higuchi's manga inspired 2004-2005 TV anime series; celebrates 10th anniversary this month

Manga creator Tachibana Higuchi (Portrait of M & N, Swan Lake) revealed via her Twitter account on Sunday that she was working on the layout for the first part of the final chapter in her Gakuen Alice magical school comedy manga. Higuchi then noted that she cannot say when the final chapter will be published in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine.

Higuchi launched the series in Hana to Yume in 2002, and she noted on Tuesday that this year's 19th issue of the magazine out on September 4 marks the manga's 10th anniversary. Higuchi added that she will be working on the final layouts for the last chapter this week.

Hakusensha released the 27th volume of the series (pictured at right) in Japan in June.

Tokyopop published 16 volumes of the manga before the company shut down last year. The company also published four volumes of Higuchi's earlier Portrait of M & N manga.

Gakuen Alice inspired a 26-episode television anime series in 2004-2005. Right Stuf released the series on DVD in North America.

The manga and anime revolve around a seemingly ordinary girl named Mikan who decides to enroll in a magical school to follow her best friend. Mikan strives to prove herself worthy of being in the school.
