Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya Listed by Retailer in U.S. (Updated)

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Online retailer Amazon.com lists the North American release date of Nagaru Tanigawa and Noizi Ito's The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya (Suzumiya Haruhi no Kyōgaku) light novel as November 19 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. The description says that the novel is the last in the series, although it was not described as such in Japan:

The Haruhi Suzumiya Series comes to a close with this tenth and final adventure for Haruhi and the S.O.S. Brigade.

The two storylines from The Disassociation of Haruhi Suzumiya continue, introducing a new inductee into the S.O.S. brigade who may be more than just the eager freshman she appears to be. As the two realities converge, the SOS Brigade learns that the new member may have the ability to bring the two story "timelines" together-and save the world in the process.

The book was originally published in Japan as two volumes in 2011, but according to Amazon's listing, the U.S. version will feature both volumes in one.

Update: Yen Press Publishing Director Kurt Hassler replied to ANN's inquiry about the Amazon listing's description that The Surprise of Haruhi SIzumiya was the last in the series, noting that: "any indication that [The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya] was the final installment of the series was in error and will be corrected accordingly." Hassler added that "As for the further continuation of the series, we have no knowledge as to the author and publisher's plans going forward and as fans ourselves can only hope to see it continue into the future!"
