3rd Madoka Magica Film Ranks 5th in Screen Average in U.S.

Madoka Magica The Movie -Rebellion- (Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica Shinpen: Hangyaku no Monogatari) ranked fifth on Box Office Mojo's list of films with the highest screen averages in the United States for the weekend of December 6-8. The film averaged US$4,884 on 39 screens, for a total gross of US$190,479. Inside Llewyn Davis, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Frozen, and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire ranked ahead of the third Madoka Magica film.
The anime's North American premiere was held in Los Angeles on December 3. The film opened in the United States and Canada on December 6. It is also screening in other countries such as Australia, France, and Mexico.
The film opened in Japan on October 26 and debuted at #1 by selling 271,279 tickets for 436 million yen (about US$4.47 million) in its opening weekend. It then dropped to #2 in box office earnings its second weekend. (It dropped to #3 in the raw number of tickets sold.) It earned over 1 billion yen (US$10 million) by its 13th day on November 7. The anime sold 1,005,092 tickets for 1,391,457,150 yen (about US$13.884 million) in its first 21 days of screening.
