Sold 149,824 copies; 2nd anime film in a row to top Oricon's charts, after Evangelion: 3.0

The limited complete pressing of Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion (Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica Shinpen: Hangyaku no Monogatari) sold 149,824 copies to rank #1 among all Blu-ray Discs on Oricon's Japanese sales charts for the first half of 2014.

The first volume for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica television anime series ranked #7 in the first half of 2011, but the third Madoka Magica film is the franchise's first Blu-ray to rank #1 in half-year sales. This is the second year in a row that an anime film topped Japan's overall Blu-ray Disc sales, after Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo accomplished the same feat last year.

Oricon's home video ranking charts cover sales from December 9, 2013 to June 8, 2014 in Japan. Madoka Magica The Movie -Rebellion- went on sale on April 2. The Blu-ray release with the second highest sales during the same period was the limited first pressing of the Pacific Rim Blu-ray & DVD Set, which sold 130,655 copies since December 11, 2013. The next anime release on the list was the limited first edition of the seventh and final Mobile Suit Gundam UC volume, which sold 100,116 at #4.
