Crunchyroll Adds Locodol Anime

posted on by Tiara Hamilton
Adaptation of Kōtarō Kosugi's 4 panel manga, Locodol, to be simulcast July 3.

Crunchyroll announced on Wednesday that it will stream the anime series Locodol as it airs in Japan. For premium users, the show premiered on Thursday and the episodes will be available for free one week later. The stream is available world-wide excluding Asia.

In the story, high school girl Nanako became her town's local idol at the request of her uncle. She and her upperclassman Yukari, a girl who seems perfect but ends up being airheaded, both become idols of their provincial area. They get interviewed (by the town's shopping center), go on television (low-budget cable), and hold concerts (on the roof of the department store). The girls' salaries come from the town's taxes.

Miku Itō (THE IDOLM@STER MOVIE: Kagayaki no Mukōgawa e!, Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai!) stars as high school girl-turned-idol Nanako Usami.

Sachika Misawa (Accel World, Campione!, Fantasista Doll) stars as the upperclassman-turned-idol Yukari Kohinata.

Asami Shimoda (Infinite Stratos 2, The IDOLM@STER) stars as Saori Nishifukai, Inori Minase (Love Lab, Super Seisyun Brothers) stars as Mirai Nazukari, and Maya Yoshioka (Girls und Panzer, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's) stars as Yui Mikazuki.

Munenori Nawa (Kiss×sis , NAKAIMO - My Little Sister Is Among Them!) is directing the series at the anime studio feel (Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father!, Kiss×sis, D.C. II: Da Capo II). Yuniko Ayana (Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl, Hori-san to Miyamura-kun) is in charge of the series scripts with Yumi Shimizu designing the characters. Nagarekawa Girls are also singing the ending theme song "Mirai Shōjo-tachi" (Future Girls). (The theme songs' CD single will go on sale July 30.)

Kosugi began serializing the manga in the magazine in 2011. Ichijinsha published the second compiled volume in February.
