Japanese Artist Arrested for Releasing 3D Printer Data of Her Genitalia

Offered data to those who donated to her vagina-shaped boat art pieces

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police's Safety Division announced that it arrested 42-year-old artist Megumi Igarashi on Monday for distributing 3D printer data of female genitalia. Igarashi denied the charges stating she did not believe the content was obscene. Police believe the data was distributed to 30 different people across Japan.

Igarashi works under the name "Rokudenashiko" when she creates art in various mediums with the vagina as theme, such as jewelry, cellphone cases, picture frames, and essay manga (website is not safe for work).

Igarashi was giving the data away as a reward to individuals donating towards her project to create a small boat shaped like a vagina. Police arrested a 30-year-old office worker in Kagawa Prefecture on March 20 who obtained the 3D printer data. That was when they discovered it was being distributed by Igarashi to her contributors.
