Screening to be held in advance of August 28 premiere on DIRECTV

Otakon announced on Wednesday, that it will host a special screening of the live action Kite film at its 2014 convention. The screening will be held Aug 8 at 10:00 p.m. EDT in BCC Ballroom I-II. All of the attendees must obtain a wristband to show they are 18 or older.

Otakon's website describes the film:

Never Underestimate a Girl with Nothing to Lose. Based on the groundbreaking, cult classic anime, KITE tells the story of Sawa, a young woman living in a corrupt society where crime and gangs terrorize the streets. When Sawa's mother and policeman father are found victims of a grisly double homicide, she begins a ruthless pursuit for the man who murdered them. With the help of her father's ex-partner, Karl Aker, and a mysterious friend from her past, she becomes a merciless teen assassin, blasting her way through the dark world of human trafficking only to uncover a devastating truth.

The live action Kite film will premiere exclusively on DIRECTV August 28.

The film stars India Eisley (Underworld: Awakening, The Secret Life of the American Teenager), Callan McAuliffe (The Great Gatsby), and Samuel L. Jackson (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Django Unchained).

Ralph Ziman directed the film off a screenplay by Brian Cox, with Anant Singh and Moisés Cosío producing.

Otakon 2014 will also screen Danger Dolls, Guardian, Jellyfish Eyes, the first three English-dubbed episodes of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, and Joker.
