A brand-new original anime film project from the staff of the anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day (Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai.) and Toradora! anime was announced at the anohana Natsu Matsuri Final event on Sunday. Tatsuyuki Nagai will direct the film, Mari Okada will handle the script, and Masayoshi Tanaka will provide the character designs. The studio A-1 Pictures is producing the animation, and Aniplex is distributing the film, as well as producing it with Fuji TV.
The film will be an entirely new work, although the story will be set in the same Chichibu City in Saitama Prefecture as anohana. As of Monday, the official anohana website is showing a mysterious egg illustration (pictured right) that is linked to the new film. The new movie will premiere in 2015.
The Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai television anime series debuted in Japan in 2011. Crunchyroll streamed the 11-episode series online. NIS America released the anime on Blu-ray Disc and DVD under the title anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day last year. A film followed in 2013, and Aniplex of America licensed and released the film in North America.
