Film will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on October 7

Funimation began streaming an English dub trailer for its Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods Extended Edition home video release on Thursday.

The Extended Edition home video release will include two versions of the film: an uncut version with an additional 20 minutes of footage not shown in theaters, and the theatrical cut. The Blu-ray and DVD combo pack, as well as a DVD-only release with just the uncut version of the film, will ship in North America on October 7.

Funimation describes the story:

Following the events of the Dragon Ball Z television series, after the defeat of Majin Buu, a new power awakens and threatens humanity. Beerus, an ancient and powerful God of Destruction, searches for Goku after hearing rumors of the Saiyan warrior who defeated Frieza. Realizing the threat Beerus poses to their home planet, the Z-fighters must find a way to stop him before it's too late. Only Goku, humanity's Last Hope, can ascend to the level of a legendary Super Saiyan God and stop Beerus's from destroying Earth, and possibly the entire universe!

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods earned US$2,553,002 during its limited theatrical run in North America.

It currently ranks as #11 in theatrically released anime of all time in North America, under (in reverse order) Howl's Moving Castle, The Wind Rises, Digimon: The Movie, Spirited Away, Ponyo, Pokémon 3 - The Movie, The Secret World of Arrietty, Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Movie, Pokémon 2000 - The Movie, and Pokémon: The First Movie.

The September issue of Shueisha's V Jump magazine announcedin July that a new Dragon Ball Z movie will open during the Golden Week string of holidays next spring.
