KenIchi Manga's Shun Matsuena Draws 3 One-Shots

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Original manga to run in November after Shijō Saikyō no Deshi Kenichi's end

This year's 42nd issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is announcing on Wednesday that KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple creator Shun Matsuena is drawing a series of three color one-shot manga. The announcement makes no reference to Matsuena's Shijō Saikyō no Deshi Kenichi (KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple) manga that is ending in the same issue.

The one-shots will include color pages and run in the magazine for three consecutive weeks beginning on November 12. The 44-page manga "Kanata" will debut in the magazine's 50th issue on November 12, followed by "Haruka" in the 51st issue on November 19. The 46-page manga "DEM III" will appear in the 52nd issue on November 26.

Matsuena launched KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 2002, and Shogakukan will publish the manga's 58th volume on Thursday. (It is the second of four volumes in four months: volume 57 in August 18, 58 on September 18, 59 on October 17, and 60 on November 18.)

The manga inspired a television anime series that Funimation released in North America. It also inspired a series of original video anime episodes that eventually ran on Japanese television.

Update: Typo fixed. Thanks, Hameyadea
