The Gundam Build Fighters Try anime's website announced on Thursday that voice actor Katsuhisa Houki will replace Masashi Hirose in the role of Ral-san, from the fifth episode onward. Hirose is being hospitalized for an extended stay to treat an unspecified illness.
Among other roles, Houki has played Gecko Moria and Jimbei in One Piece, Rihaku in Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken: Yuria-den, Conrad as Romeo × Juliet, Van Vat Tran in Super Robot Wars OG: The Inspector, Kenzō Usui in Star Driver, Mahmai Moi in Toriko, Ben Jackson in Tiger & Bunny, Curry in Jormungand, and Raven in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
In both Gundam Build Fighters and its Try sequel, Hirose played the Gundam plastic model expert Ral-san — a name reference to arguably his most famous role, the pilot Ramba Ral in the first Mobile Suit Gundam series and movie trilogy. He also played Ramba Ral in many spinoff anime and game projects, as well as supporting roles in other Gundam projects. Gundam Build Fighters Try premiered on Wednesday.
In other anime, Hirose played the sumo wrestler Rikishiman in the Kinnikuman franchise, Hideyoshi Ushiromiya in Umineko When They Cry, Soichi Ayukawa in Basquash!, Professor Tange in Honey and Clover, Kan Yu in Armored Trooper Votoms, Cole in Taiyō no Kiba Dougram, and Riku Dold III in One Piece.
