Saikano's Shin Takahashi to Launch Hatsukoi Honya Manga

posted on by Tiara Hamilton
Series about a boy who regularly visits a bookstore to begin in December

The December issue of Hakusensha's Melody magazine announced on Tuesday that manga creator Shin Takahashi (Saikano) will launch a new series in the February issue on December 28. The series, titled Hatsukoi Honya. (First Love Bookshop.), is set several years after Takahashi's previous Ano Shōtengai no, Honya no, Chiisana Oku-san no O-Hanashi (The Story of a Little Shopkeeper, of a Bookstore, in That Shopping District) manga. That earlier manga ran in the same magazine in 2013. The new series follows a boy named Genji who is a regular customer at the bookstore.

Takahashi drew the fantasy series Kimi no Kakera in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine from 2002 to 2004, but stopped the magazine serialization and continued releasing the story directly in book volumes (tankōbon). He resumed the series in 2009 after a taking two year break, and Shogakukan published the ninth and final compiled volume in July 2010.

Shougakukan published Takahashi's Saikano manga series in Japan, and Viz Media published the manga in North America. The series originally ran from 2000 to 2001. The series has been adapted into a television anime, an original video anime project, and a live-action film.
