Hetalia Anime of Anthropomorphized Nations Gets New Series

Hidekaz Himaruya's manga about bishōnen nations inspires 6th season, Hetalia The World Twinkle

The January issue of Gentosha's Monthly Comic Birz magazine is announcing on Saturday that production on the anime Hetalia The World Twinkle has been green-lit. The magazine proclaims, "Hetalia's eagerly anticipated new series launches!!" Monthly Comic Birz will start unveiling new information in the following issue.

Hetalia The World Twinkle will be the sixth anime season inspired by Hidekaz Himaruya's Hetalia manga. The manga takes the archetypal characteristics of countries and regions throughout the world, and anthropomorphizes them as (mostly) bishōnen characters.

The previous anime season, Hetalia The Beautiful World, premiered in Japan on January 2013. Funimation has released all the previous anime seasons and the Hetalia Axis Powers: Paint it, White! film in North America.

Tokyopop published the first two manga volumes, but it shut down its North American publishing operations in 2011. Right Stuf announced in 2012 that it partnered with the Japanese publisher Gentosha Comics and Tokyopop to release the manga, and it has published the six volumes released so far.
