Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Sells Over 3 Million Copies Globally in 3 Days

posted on by Kyle Cardine
Worldwide total includes 1.5 million+ in Japan, but does not yet include Europe

Enterbrain's Famitsu magazine reported on Wednesday that the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Nintendo 3DS games have sold 3.04 million copies worldwide in three days, including over 1.5 million in Japan alone. The games combined hold the first-week sales record in Japan in 2014 so far.

However, the worldwide total does not include sales from Europe yet, as the game is slated to ship on November 28 in the region. Pre-orders in Europe have so far outpaced pre-orders for 2013's Pokémon X and Y, which hold the record for fastest and most first-week sales worldwide on the Nintendo 3DS. (Pokémon X and Y's cumulative worldwide sales total stands at 13.29 million, as of September 30.)

The Pokémon Company previously announced on November 15 that over one million copies of the games had been pre-ordered in Japan. The game was released on November 21 in Japan, North America, and Australia.

The new titles remake the 2003 Game Boy Advance games Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire. Those earlier titles sold 16.22 million worldwide, as of September 30.
