Image Comics to Publish Ken Niimura's Henshin

Short story collection by artist of award-winning series I Kill Giants set to ship January

American publisher Image Comics will publish Spanish artist JM Ken Niimura's collection of short stories titled Henshin in January.

The comic will be available in comic stores on January 14 and in bookstores on January 28 for US$19.99. It is currently available for preorder and will read right-to-left.

Image Comics gives a synopsis of the story and the meaning of the title:

“Henshin” means “transformation” in Japanese, and in all 13 stories, Niimura shows how choices and events — whether momentous or seemingly insignificant — can change the lives of his protagonists.

“A transformation or a change is the most basic premise for a story,” said Niimura. “That's why Henshin is about people in the process of change. I also chose this title hoping that I would also change for the better in the process of creation and improve my craft.”

Niimura's imaginative storytelling finds its way into the emotional lives of his characters, from a kid with peculiar powers to a lonely girl finding her way in the big city to a salaryman out on the town.

"Web Ikipara Comic," the web manga corner of Shogakukan's Monthly Ikki magazine's official website Ikki Paradise, began serializing Henshin in January 2013.

Niimura worked with American author Joe Kelley on International Manga Award-winning graphic novel I Kill Giants, published by Image Comics in the United States in 2008. Japanese publisher Shogakukan began printing the graphic novel in Japan in November 2012.
