2015's combined 2nd/3rd issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is announcing on Wednesday that the Magic Kaito 1412 television anime will introduce new opening and ending theme songs in January. Chico with HoneyWorks will perform the new opening, while Galileo Galilei will perform the new ending.
Chico was the winning vocalist in the Utakatsu! Audition Grand Prix competition, and HoneyWorks (Brothers Conflict, Tokyo Ravens) is a hugely popular creator unit. They previously collaborated on the Blue Spring Ride anime's hit opening theme "Sekai wa Koi ni Ochiteiru." Magic Kaito 1412's new opening will be on the collaboration's second single in February.
Galileo Galilei is a three-person rock band who formed in Hokkaido in 2007, and made their debut on a major label in February 2010 with the mini album Hamanasu no Hana. They previously contributed to the soundtracks of anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, Mobile Suit Gundam AGE, and Ookiku Furikabutte ~Natsu no Taikai-hen~. The band's Yūki Ozaki also contributed to Hamatora's opening theme song "Flat" by Livetune, and the band launched a series of anime shorts in 2010.
Magic Kaito 1412 adapts Gosho Aoyama's Magic Kaito manga. Kappei Yamaguchi plays the title magician thief and his Kaito Kuroba alter-ego, after playing the same role in the Detective Conan anime. (Yamaguchi also plays Shin'ichi Kudo himself in Detective Conan.)
The anime premiered on October 4 as a 24-episode anime. YTV describes the story:
Kaito Kuroba is a seventeen-year-old high school student who is an adept magician due to the influence of his father, Toichi Kuroba who died mysteriously. Eight years after his father's death, Kaito discovers a secret room in his home that was set up by his father to reveal itself on that very day. Finding Kid the Phantom Thief's gadgets and costume in the room, Kaito dons the disguise and decides to confront Kid who has recently resurfaced after his eight years of absence. Kaito discovers Kid to be Konosuke Jii, his father's butler, who ascertains Toichi was the first Kid the Phantom Thief. Jii reveals he took on the role as Kid to lure out Toichi's murderer. Upon learning that his father was murdered, Kaito continues the role of Kid the Phantom Thief as he searches for his father's killer.
