Houko Kuwashima Joins Hōkago no Pleiades TV Anime's Cast

Gainax, Subaru collaboration TV anime premieres in Japan in spring 2015

A promotional video screened at the production press conference for the upcoming Hōkago no Pleiades TV anime revealed that Houko Kuwashima will join the cast of the anime as the male character Minato.

The promotional video also revealed that the anime will premiere on Japanese television stations Tokyo MX, ABC, BS Fuji, Tochigi TV, and Gunma TV. in spring 2015. Voice actress Saki Fujita mentioned that the anime would begin in April, but was corrected by staff. The staff of the anime also mentioned that like in the YouTube version of the anime, the sounds of the engines will come from Subaru cars.

Subaru and Gainax announced the TV anime project in February, on the third anniversary of their collaboration.

Ichijinsha's Manga 4-Koma Pallette magazine announced in October that Hōkago no Pleiades will get a four-panel manga adaptation starting in the magazine's February issue on December 22. Mirai Denki will draw the series.

The project's story centers around an afterschool club of magical girls who help recover fragments so that an alien from Pleiades can return home. The Pleiades is the English name for the star cluster that the Japanese call "Subaru" — the origin of the car maker's name and six-star logo. Subaru and Gainax streamed the original anime online with English subtitles.

Gainax announced a Hōkago no Pleiades film project in 2013 and a television anime project in February.

The original net anime's staff includes director Shouji Saeki (Mahoromatic: Tadaima Okaeri, Strike Witches 2 episode storyboarder), concept artist and original character designer Daisuke Kikuchi (Gurren Lagann, Mahoromatic: Tadaima Okaeri), and character designer Mai Otsuka (Shakugan no Shana, Hanamaru Kindergarten). Also involved are art director Hiroshi Katō (Evangelion Shin Gekijōban: Jo/Ha, Gunbuster 2), director of photography Toyonori Yamada (Gurren Lagann, Hanamaru Kindergarten), and color key artist Chie Yoshimura (Chou Gekijouban Keroro Gunsō, The Big O).
