2016 Yu-Gi-Oh! Film Teaser Recaps 20 Years of Manga, Anime

2016 Yu-Gi-Oh! film tells new story with original protagonists Yūgi, Kaiba

The Mainichi Shimbun newspaper's MAiDiGiTV began streaming a video for the new Yu-Gi-Oh! film on Monday. The video recaps the last 20 years of Kazuki Takahashi's Yu-Gi-Oh! manga and most of the anime series within the franchise. The protagonists of the new film are Yūgi Mutō's and Seto Kaiba of the original manga and anime series. The film will feature a completely original story when it opens in 2016.

Narrator: Inheriting the soul of the duelist. The Yu-Gi-Oh! 20th Anniversary Project launches in 2016. 2016 Yu-Gi-Oh! film green-lit! The heroes are Yūgi Mutō's and Seto Kaiba. The plot will be an original story. For the 20th anniversary, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters will be remastered and shown on TV Tokyo, starting on February 7, 2015 at 7:30 a.m. History begins again!

Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine teases the film's story:

In the past Yūgi Yami and Kaiba have clashed many times!! Yami Yūgi, who resides in Yūgi Mutō's body, and Kaiba will have a duel that bets their prides and accepts each other's mutual experience.

International distributor 4K Media Inc. announced in June that a new Yu-Gi-Oh! movie is in development in Japan. Kristen Gray, 4K Media Inc. senior vice president, commented, “We're thrilled to bring the Yu-Gi-Oh! characters back to theater screens for their enthusiastic fan base.”

4K Media was shopping for a distributor for all territories outside of Asia, and promoted the card game and anime franchise at Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.
