Doraemon scriptwriter Nobuyuki Fujimoto passed away at a hospital in Saitama prefecture on January 4 at 2:25 p.m. JST from a tumor in his superior mediastinum of the upper chest. He was 57. At his request, he will not have a funeral service.

Fujimoto, who was born in Miyagi prefecture, most notably worked on scripts for the Doraemon television anime series and the Doraemon: Nobita's the Night Before a Wedding film (pictured at right). He also wrote scripts for Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, Grander Musashi, Coral Reef Legend: Elfie of the Blue Sea, Jungle Book: Shounen Mowgli, Daddy Long-Legs, Cosmowarrior Zero, Nangoku Shounen Papuwa-kun, and Yamato Takeru, among others.
