The March issue of Shodensha's Feel Young magazine announced on Saturday that a spinoff of George Asakura's Piece of Cake manga will launch in the next issue. Piece of Cake: Bangai-hen Piece 1 will launch in the April issue on March 7.
The spinoff will celebrate the original manga's live-action film adaptation. The story will center on the character Akari, whose pen name is Naomi Shibuya, from the original romance manga series. This will be the first new Piece of Cake work in six years.
Asakura's serialized the original manga in Feel Young from 2003 to 2008, and Shodensha published five compiled book volumes for the entire series.
The original story centers on Shino Umemiya, a woman in her 20s. She turns over a new leaf in her life when she leaves her boyfriend, quits her job, and moves. She gradually develops feelings for her new neighbor Kyōshirō Sugahara, a shop manager. However, Kyōshirō lives with his girlfriend Akari Narita.
