Asobi ni Ikuyo!/Cat Planet Cuties Light Novel Series Ends

posted on
Okina Kamino's romantic comedy novel series began in 2003, inspired TV anime, manga

Kadokawa brand company Media Factory's listing of the 20th volume of Okina Kamino's Asobi ni Iku yo! (Let's Go Play!) light novel series confirms that it will be the final volume. Media Factory will ship the 20th novel on February 25.

The story is about Kio Kakazu, a high school freshman in Okinawa. A girl with cat ears appears before him during a memorial service for one of his family ancestors. The girl calls herself Eris and claims she is an alien. Before long, fanatical alien worshippers and a mysterious government agency are in hot pursuit of Eris, but Kio's childhood friend Manami — who wants to follow in her father's footsteps in the CIA — captures Eris. Kio finds himself having to protect Eris from everyone.

19 volumes of the light novel have been published since Kamino started the series with art by Houdeneizou in 2003. A manga adaptation by artist 888 ran in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive magazine in 2006. Media Factory published the 10th and last compiled volume of the manga last August.

The light novel inspired a 12-episode television anime series of the same name in 2010, and an OAV in 2011. Yōichi Ueda (Hayate the Combat Butler! Cuties director, Bamboo Blade, Heaven's Lost Property animation director) directed both the TV series and OAV at AIC PLUS+. FUNimation Entertainment licensed and released the television anime in North America under the title Cat Planet Cuties.
