Leonard Nimoy's wife Susan Bay Nimoy confirmed to The New York Times that the actor passed away this Friday morning. He was 83.
The cause of death was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Nimoy announced that he had the disease last year, and attributed it to his smoking habit, though he quit three decades prior.
Nimoy was best known for playing Spock in various iterations of Star Trek, and also directed two Star Trek films. He held a number of voice-over credits, including Galvatron in Transformers: The Movie and Master Xehanort in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.
