Yuuki Itoh (Vividred Operation assistant director) is directing the anime at A-1 Pictures. Naruo Kobayashi (ToHeart2, Itazura na Kiss) is the main writer, and Masaaki Yamano (Oreshura, Nanana's Buried Treasure animation director) is designing the characters. Nana Mizuki will perform the opening theme and Yukari Tamura will perform the ending theme.

Kaori Mizuhashi (Madoka Magica's Mami, Hidamari Sketch's Miyako) will star as Vivio Takamachi, and Mamiko Noto (Akame ga KILL!'s Shelle, Lagrange - The Flower of Rin-ne's Yōko) will play Einhart Stratos. Yukari Tamura and Nana Mizuki will reprise their roles as Nanoha Takamachi and Fate, respectively. Eri Kitamura and Misato Fukuen are joining the cast as Rio and Corona, respectively.

Masaki Tsuzuki and Takuya Fujima launched the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid manga in Kadokawa's Comp Ace magazine in May 2009. Kadokawa published the 13th compiled volume in January.

The manga takes place four years after the JS incident in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS, and stars Vivio Takamachi, a fourth-year elementary student at St. Hilde Academy of Magic. Vivio has learned to conjure her adult form and has received her own Device — named Sacred Heart — from Nanoha, and has promised Nanoha to never use either for mischief. Then a mysterious magical fighter appears and targets Vivio.

Tsuzuki's Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha franchise includes three television anime series, two anime films, and numerous spinoff manga. A third film, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The Movie 3rd: Reflection, was listed last January as being slated for 2014, but has yet to debut.
