Nodame Cantabile's Ninomiya Draws "Episode 0" One-Shot Manga for Live-Action Film

The official website of the Gunjōiro no, Toori Michi (An Ultramarine Path) live-action film announced last Saturday that Tomoko Ninomiya (Nodame Cantabile, 87 Clockers) drew a 20-page one-shot manga titled "Episode 0" based on the film. The manga was available for free on Amazon, Rakuten Books, and Mook from March 21 to 27, and is also appearing in pamphlets that are being distributed with the movie's release. The movie opened in Japan on Saturday.
Gunjōiro no, Toori Michi commemorates the ten-year anniversary of the old city of Ōta merging with the neighboring towns of Nitta, Ojima, and Yabusukahon on March 28, 2005. The movie's story focuses on Yoshiyuki Mayama, who ran away from his home in Ōta to go to Tokyo and pursue his dream of being a musician. Ten years later, he returns to Ōta and reconnects with family and friends, and tries to finish a piece of music he had left behind.
Tomoko Ninomiya's manga is a prequel to the movie, focusing on Yoshiyuki's musician life in Tokyo, and what led to his decision to return. She based the manga on a portion of the movie's story cut from the original script.
Ninomiya launched her ongoing manga 87 Clockers in the Shueisha's Jump Kai magazine in 2011, as well as a journal of her life as a mother in Onigiri Tsūshin - Dame Mama Nikki in Shueisha's Monthly You magazine.
Del Rey published the 16th volume of Nodame Cantabile in North America in 2009. The Nodame Cantabile manga was adapted into three television anime series, and has also received live-action drama and film adaptations.
