Crunchyroll announced on Monday that it will stream the new Gintama series as it airs in Japan. The stream will premiere for premium members on Wednesday, April 8 at 6:30 a.m. EDT, and free users will be able to watch one week later.
The stream will be available worldwide outside of Asia.
Crunchyroll describes the story:
The values of the city of Edo suddenly changed when the aliens, called Amanto, invaded. In a world where anything goes, from aliens to motorbikes and even electric trains, a man known as the last samurai clings to his unchanging spirit. His name is Gintoki Sakata, a.k.a. Odd Jobs Gin. He's reckless and irresponsible, but somehow he does what needs to be done in his own subtle way. The lifestyles of Gin and his companions will make you laugh, make you cry, and warm your heart!
Hideaki Sorachi's original Gintama action comedy manga inspired a television anime that premiered in 2006 and continued (with several extended hiatuses) until 2013. It also inspired two movies, including the "final" Gekijōban Gintama Kanketsu-hen: Yorozuya yo Eien Nare film that opened in 2013.
