The seventh compiled book volume of Kei Natsumi's Umineko When They Cry Episode 8: Twilight of the golden witch manga revealed on Wednesday that the manga will end with its ninth volume. Square Enix will publish both the eighth and ninth volumes on August 22. Natsumi launched the Episode 8 manga in 2012 in Square Enix's Monthly Gangan Joker magazine.
Square Enix also published the ninth and final volume of Eita Mizuno's Umineko When They Cry Episode 7: Requiem of the golden witch manga on Wednesday.
The manga is part of a series of multi-episode adaptations of Ryukishi07/07th Expansion's mystery suspense dōjin game from the Umineko When They Cry (Umineko no Naku Koro ni) multi-media franchise. In the story, 18 people step foot on the remote island of Rokkenjima in October of 1986, when a spate of murders takes place. Natsumi also drew both the first and the third story arcs of the manga, and Jiro Suzuki, Sōichirō, Akitaka, and Hinase Momoyama have illustrated the manga's other story arcs.
Yen Press licensed the manga in 2012, and will release the 10th omnibus volume (Umineko When They Cry Episode 5: End of the Golden Witch volume 1) next month.
The Umineko When They Cry game inspired a television anime series, which first aired in Japan in 2009. NIS America licensed the anime in 2012 and released it in two Premium Edition volumes in December of that year.
