posted on by Karen Ressler
PS4 game slated for October 13 in N. America, October 16 in Europe

Square Enix North America began streaming a trailer on Tuesday for the PlayStation 4 game Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below. The video introduces the main characters' localized names, and announces that the game will ship on October 13 in North America. The game will also ship in Europe on October 16.

Square Enix will release a launch edition with 11 in-game items, as well as a collector's edition that also comes with a special box, Slime plushie, Slime key chain, and Slime lanyard. The game will also be available digitally via the PlayStation Store.

Dragon Quest Heroes is a roleplaying game in the long-running Dragon Quest RPG franchise. The game was developed in collaboration with Koei Tecmo Games' Omega Force team, which also developed the Warriors series of games. In addition to being the first action RPG in the Dragon Quest series, the game was be the first title in the series in ten years to be released on a PlayStation system. Yuji Horii served as the general director of the game, Kōichi Sugiyama composed the soundtrack, and Akira Toriyama designed the characters and monsters.

Square Enix describes the story:

When a dark shockwave sweeps through the city of Arba, the monsters that once lived alongside the people in peace are driven into a frenzied rage. As either the hero Luceus or the heroine Aurora, the player joins forces with a cast of fan favorites from previous DRAGON QUEST titles, such as Alena, Bianca and Yangus, to bring the rampaging hordes of monsters to their senses and restore order to the kingdom.

Square Enix shipped the game for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan on February 26. A sequel is currently in development for the same consoles, as well as PlayStation Vita.
