Singaporean film distributor Odex describes the story:

Hiroshi was ordered to collect the fruit of cactus and was transferred to Mexico. So, Nohara family had to move to Mexico and live there. They had to bid farewell to their acquaintances and the citizens of Kasukabe with tears. Shinnosuke had heard that Mexican young girls are stylish and beautiful, so he was eager for this journey. On arriving at Madakueruyobaka city in Mexico, a new life full of anxiety, surrounded by unique neighbours, is awaiting them. But Shinnosuke and Nohara family had no idea that flesh-eating killer cactuses are going to attack. Can Nohara family along with the neighbours of Mexico really overcome this trouble?

The film originally premiered in Japan on April 18.

Maaya Sakamoto (Ghost in the Shell Arise, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children) and Daisuke Namikawa (Kimi ni Todoke, Hetalia) guest starred in the film as elementary school teacher Carolina and a mariachi, respectively. Former AKB48 idol group member Rino Sashihara played Sumaho-chan, a character who is named that by Shin-chan due to her habit of always using her smartphone ('sumaho' is Japanese slang for smartphone). Hiroaki Hirata played the town mayor and Kenyuu Horiuchi played Nene Rodriguez, also known as Rainbow Mask. Female comedian duo Nippon Elekitel Rengō members Akemi-chan (real name Koyuki Hashimoto) and Hosogai-san (Sōko Nakano) also guest-starred as themselves.

Director Masakazu Hashimoto and writer Kimiko Ueno, who both worked on Eiga Crayon Shin-chan: Bakauma—! B-Kyū Gourmet Survival!!, returned to helm the newest film.
