The July issue of Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan magazine revealed on June 25 that Takahiro and Kei Toru's Akame ga KILL! ZERO prequel manga is "approaching its climax."
The "dark action" manga takes place a few years before the events in Takahiro's original Akame ga KILL! manga series. The prequel centers on the title character Akame, a girl bought, brainwashed, and raised by the Empire as an assassin.
Takahiro and Toru launched the spinoff manga in October 2013. Takahiro is providing the story while Toru illustrates the manga. Square Enix published the manga's second compiled book volume last December, and the third volume will ship on July 22.
Yen Press licensed and publishes Takahiro's original Akame ga KILL! manga in North America, and the company published the second English volume on April 21. The manga inspired a TV anime, which premiered in Japan in July 2014. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan, and Sentai Filmworks licensed the series for home video. The anime will air on Adult Swim's Toonami block starting on August 8.
