Aniplus-Asia to Start Airing Usagi Drop TV Anime on September 1

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Anime about single man raising child originally aired in Japan in 2011

Southeast Asian channel Aniplus-Asia announced on its Facebook page on Tuesday that it will begin airing the Usagi Drop (Bunny Drop) TV anime on September 1 at 10:00 p.m. in Indonesia and Thailand, and at 11:00 p.m. in Singapore.

Aniplus-Asia describes the show:

“A story of family bonding between a 30-year-old single man and a 6-year-old girl.”

Daikichi, a 30-year-old bachelor, encounters Rin, a 6-year-old girl he doesn't know, at his grandfather's funeral. Daikichi is flabbergasted when he learns that she is actually the illegitimate child of his grandfather. The other relatives pretend to have a discussion over who will get custody of Rin, all the while trying to fob her off on each other. Unable to let this pass, Daikichi impulsively declares that he will adopt Rin. Daikichi has a strong sense of justice, but he's a blunderer, while Rin, though a little girl, has a strong mind. And so their life together begins, a road that is sure to be bumpy and will require cooperation from both of them.

Can Daikichi handle both child-raising and his work? And will the single Daikichi find a partner to make his new family complete?

Yumi Unita launched the Usagi Drop manga in Shodensha's Feel Young magazine in 2006, and ended it in 2011. The manga's English version was nominated for the 2011 Eisner Awards. A live-action film version directed by Sabu opened in Japan in August 2011. The 11-episode TV anime adaptation premiered in July 2011.
