Kamisama Kiss Manga Gets New Musical, 2 More OADs

New OADs shipping in April, August next year

This year's 18th issue of Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine will reveal on Thursday that a new stage musical adaptation of Julietta Suzuki's Kamisama Kiss (Kamisama Hajimemashita) manga has been green-lit. The magazine also reveals that two new original anime DVD (OAD) have also been green-lit.

The new musical will be titled Kamisama Hajimemashita The Musical 2016. The musical will run from January 15 to 21 next year in the Aiia 2.5 Theater in Tokyo. No further details for the musical have been revealed.

The previous stage musical adaptation of the manga ran from March 21 to 29 at the Tokyo Geijutsu Gekijō Playhouse. Takehika Hata wrote and directed the production.

The new OAD episodes will be bundled with limited editions of the manga's upcoming volumes. The first new episode, tentatively titled "Kamisama, Hanayome ni Naru" (The God Becomes a Bride), will ship with a limited edition of the manga's 24th volume on April 20 next year. The pre-order deadline for the limited edition is February 26.

The second new episode, tentatively titled "Kamisama, Mukae ni Iku" (I'll Meet Up With the God), will ship with a limited edition of the manga's 25th volume on August 19 next year. The pre-order deadline for the limited edition is June 29.

The two previous OAD episodes will be bundled with limited editions of the manga's 22nd and 23rd volumes, respectively. The episodes adapt the manga's "past arc." The manga's 22nd volume ships on Thursday, while the 23rd volume ships on December 18. The official website of the manga's TV anime adaptation previously streamed a promotional video for the two OAD episodes.

A previous two-episode OAD also shipped with the manga's 16th volume in August 2013.

The story of Julietta Suzuki's original manga begins with Nanami, a girl who finds herself homeless after her father leaves. She comes to the home of a man who offers to let her stay over — only to discover it is a Shinto shrine. The man happened to be a deity who has just transferred his status and his yōkai to Nanami. That yōkai's name is Tomoe, and a contract between him and Nanami can only be sealed in one way: with a kiss.

Suzuki launched the manga in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine in 2008, and Hakusensha published the 21st volume in April. Viz Media is publishing the 18th volume in North America on June 2.

The series inspired two anime seasons, and Funimation streamed both seasons as they aired in Japan. Funimation also released the first season on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in 2014.
