Quick Reminder: Animaga Expo 2015 hits Melbourne This Weekend

Animaga will again return to the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne this weekend from the 5th to the 6th of September 2015.

Animaga returns to Melbourne with special guests, Japanese voice actor Tohru Furuya (Amuro Ray from Mobile Suit Gundam, Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon) and Japanese CG and dōjinshi artist Carnelian. This is alongside their cosplay, gunpla, gaming and maid cafe events and of course their traders hall.

  • Where: Royal Exhibition Building, 9 Nicholson St, Carlton VIC 3053.
  • When: Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th of September 2015 from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
  • Cost: Tickets start $30 for a single day pass and $40 for a weekend pass at the door.

Special Guests

Tohru Furuya

Most famously known as Amuro Ray from the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Tohru Furuya has been voice acting since the 1970s and shows no sign of slowing down. You will know him as Yamcha from Dragon Ball, Tuxedo Mask in the original Sailor Moon and Pegasus Seiya in Saint Seiya. He has also narrated both Akagi and Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (and voiced Ribbons Almark), voiced Casshern in Casshern Sins, reprised his role as Yamcha for Dragon Ball Z Kai, voiced Dr. Kosaku Tokita in Satoshi Kon's Paprika and most recently appeared as Sabo in One Piece. Carnelian

A well known Japanese CG and dōjinshi artist, Carnelian has provided artwork and character designs for anime, yaoi and hentai games. You might know Carnelian from her visual novel studio Root whose work included Moonlight Lady and Yami to Bōshi to Hon no Tabibito which were both later adapted to anime series. Highlights

While the Animaga website is improved on last year, it's still a tad confusing. The map and the timetable are both listed on the front page but here's a couple of our highlights.
  • Saturday

    • 12:00pm - Tohru Furuya. Main Stage.
    • 1:00pm - Carnelian Live Art Demo. Main Stage.
    • 5:00pm - Cosplay Parade. Main Stage.
  • Sunday

    • 1:00pm - Animaga Cosplay Competition. Main Stage.
    • 4:00pm - AMV Competition. Panel Room.

Madman Entertainment will be hosting a panel at 11:00am on Saturday in the Panel Room. Hanabee will be following with their panel at 11:00am Sunday in the Panel Room. ANNAU will endeavour to have reports on any new releases as the information is made available.

Animaga will be running a Maid Cafe for both days, open from 10:00am on until 5:00pm on Saturday and 10:00am to 5:00pm on Sunday (details can be found here. There will also be a gaming area and the Gunpla workshop running all day and a variety of Madman anime will be screening in the Madman Screen Area on both days.
