This year's LA EigaFest, which will be held September 25-27, will host live-action Rurouni Kenshin director Keishi Ōtomo and actor Munetaka Aoki (Sagara Sanosuke) to accompany its screening of Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends. Both will also attend the festival's After Party at the Belasco.
In addition, the festival will screen the North American premiere of live-action film based on Tetsuya Tsutsui's suspense manga Prophecy (Yokokuhan). The film opened on June 6 in Japan
The manga revolves around the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Cyber Crime Division in its pursuit of a criminal. One day, a man with a newspaper mask publishes a video online of a food processing factory set ablaze. The division labels the terrorist the "Newspaper Man" and tries to discover the motives behind his crimes.
Toma Ikuta stars as the leader of the mysterious terrorist group, the "Newspaper Men," while Erika Toda plays Yoshino, the elite police officer pursuing the leader. The other members of the terrorist group include Ryohei Suzuki as Kansai, Gaku Hamada as Nobita, and Yoshiyoshi Arakawa as Metabo. Yoshihiro Nakamura (The Booth, Kaibutsu-kun) directed the film.
The festival also began streaming an English-subtitled trailer for The Case of Hana & Alice.
The festival will also screen the US premiere of the live-action Maestro film and the North American premiere of the live-action Princess Jellyfish film.
