DOES, Swimy Perform New Gintama Theme Songs

posted on by Kyle Hallmark
Both theme songs to premiere in January

The first 2016 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine (cover pictured at right) announced on Monday that DOES and Swimy will perform the new opening and ending theme songs respectively for the Gintama television anime series. The new theme songs will premiere in January.

The new opening theme song by DOES is titled "Know Know Know." DOES previously performed other theme songs for Gintama as well as Gintama: The Movie, Naruto Shippūden, and Space Brothers. The new ending theme song by Swimy is titled "ACCHI Muite." Swimy is a four-person rock band with mixed male and females vocals that formed in 2011 and is signed under Tower Records.

OKAMOTO'S and Three Lights Down Kings are performing the current opening and ending theme songs respectively. Those theme songs premiered in the show in October.

The Gintama television anime series began adapting the original manga's "Shogun Assassination" story arc on Wednesday.

Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime, which premiered in April.

Hideaki Sorachi's original Gintama action comedy manga inspired a television anime that premiered in 2006 and continued (with several extended hiatuses) until 2013. The manga also inspired two movies, including the "final" Gekijōban Gintama Kanketsu-hen: Yorozuya yo Eien Nare film that opened in 2013.
