posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Singapore Media Academy announced on Tuesday that it will offer a one-year course in character design beginning next semester. Singapore Media Academy is offering the course in coordination with Kadokawa Contents Academy Japan, and manga creator Kazumi Suneya (Itoshi no Vampire, 1-Nen C-Gumi Kyōfu Kaigi, Just Pocket) will handle the course.
The course will consist of six modules, and will go through topics such as digital tool operation, line drawing, color coordination, painting techniques, background scenery, inorganic objects, and character business. Upon completion of all modules, students will be offered a Diploma in Animation (Character Design).
Suneya debuted with his "Suttobi" one-shot manga in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion in 1982. He published his "Kaijū!? Griton" one-shot in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 1990, and also began serializing his first manga series, Itoshi no Vampire, in Kodansha's Magazine Special in the same year. He has worked as a teacher at Kadokawa Contents Academy in Taiwan and at Kyoto Seika University, and counts manga creator Sui Ishida (Tokyo Ghoul) as one of his former students.
