New Shiratori Reiko de Gozaimasu! TV Drama's Opening Streamed

Boys and Men idol group perform theme song, play characters for series premiering Thursday

Kodansha began streaming the opening sequence for the live-action television drama adaptation of Yumiko Suzuki's Shiratori Reiko de Gozaimasu! (I Am Reiko Shiratori!) love comedy manga on Wednesday. The video features the theme song "Wanna be!" by Boys and Men. The drama will premiere in Japan on Thursday.

Kodansha previously streamed a trailer for the series.

A film adaptation is also slated for 2016.

The manga follows the rich, beautiful, and stuck-up Reiko Shiratori, who has been in love with her friend Tetsuya Akimoto since childhood.

The TV series will star Mayuko Kawakita (Fashion Story: Model, Kurokouchi, pictured below in costume) as Reiko.

Boys and Men idol group leader Masaru Mizuno (pictured upper left in image below) will play Tetsuya. Additionally, Boys and Men members Yukihisa Tamura (top row center), Tatsunori Tsujimoto (top row right), Masato Yoshihara (bottom row center), and Shunsuke Tanaka (bottom row left) will all also appear in the drama. Other cast members include: Ayaka Ōnishi, Anna Odaka, Yūka Ueno, Risa Naitō, Tamao Satō, Masahiko Sakata, Shihō Harumi, and Yoneko Matsukane.

Boys and Men member Yutaka Kobayashi (bottom row center in image above) will also have a role in the film version.

Shinji Kuma, Tatsuya Matsuoka, and Keita Mizunami are directing the series, and Yōsuke Ōtani is writing the scripts.

The manga previously inspired two live-action TV series in 1989 and 1993, as well as a live-action film in 1995. The manga also inspired a 40-minute OVA in 1990.

Suzuki launched the original seven-volume manga in Kodansha's mimi magazine in 1988. She launched a sequel manga titled Shin Shiratori Reiko de Gozaimasu! (New I Am Reiko Shiratori!) in 1992, but the manga remains unfinished.
