Kousuke Fujishima Ends Paradise Residence Manga, Starts New Series

Oh My Goddess! creator launched slice-of-life manga in 2008

Kousuke Fujishima's Paradise Residence manga ended in the March issue of Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine on Monday. Fujishima will launch a new series this spring.

The story of Paradise Residence revolves around tomboy Hatsune Takanashi's life in a females-only dorm, and looks at the behind-the-scenes of girls who attend an all-girls school. Hatsune has little interest in anything but eating or sleeping, and has a roommate named Suzuka Misawa.

Fujishima (Oh My Goddess!) launched the manga in the inaugural issue of Kodansha's Good! Afternoon magazine in November 2008. After the manga went on hiatus in 2012, Fujishima resumed the series in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine in May 2014. Kodansha will publish the third compiled volume in Japan on March 23. Kodansha had released a "volume 0" in Japan in February 2015.

The manga also inspired two light novel volumes by Kanan Norihara in 2011 and 2014.

Kodansha Comics has licensed the manga and will release the first volume in North America in March.

Dark Horse Comics has released Fujishima's Oh My Goddess! and part of his You're Under Arrest manga in North America. Fujishima ended Oh My Goddess! in April 2014 after 25 years of serialization, and Dark Horse Comics published the 48th and final volume in English in October.

Fujishima is returning to the Tales of video game franchise as a designer for the Tales of Berseria game that will ship for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in Japan in 2016. Bandai Namco Entertainment will also release the game for PlayStation 4 and PC in North America and Europe.
