posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Film based on Ayuko Hatta shōjo manga opens on May 28

The official website for the live-action film of Ayuko Hatta's shōjo manga Wolf Girl & Black Prince (Ōkami Shōjo to Kuro Ōji) began streaming a teaser for the film on Thursday. The video highlights the story's premise.

Girl: Seriously? This is your boyfriend?
Girl: He's pretty hot.
Narrator: In reality, she has zero experience in love.
Test: Liar
Narrator: But the person who helped her...
Kyōya: You're in some kind of trouble, right?
Erika: He's so sweet, like a prince!
Text: The ideal prince.
Kyōya: In other words, I just need to pretend to be your boyfriend, right?
Erika: You're really fine with that?
Kyōya: Then... give me three laps, put your hand in mine and bark.
Erika: What?
Text: But in truth, actually a sadist?
Kyōya: You're my dog, and I'm your master.
Erika: Arf.
Narrator: Where is this love that started from a lie headed?
Narrator and Text: Wolf Girl & Black Prince
Kyōya: I'm going to tease you so much.

The film will open in Japan on May 28.

The website is showing a visual for the film. The visual shows lead actors Fumi Nikaidō (left in photo) and Kento Yamazaki (right in photo) in costume as Erika Shinohara and Kyōya Sata, their respective characters. The visual resembles an illustration Hatta drew for the manga.

The rest of the film's cast includes:

  • Nobuyuki Suzuki as Nozomi Kamiya
  • Mugi Kadowaki as Ayumi Sanda
  • Elaiza Ikeda as Aki Tezuka
  • Ryūsei Yokohama as Takeru Hibiya
  • Tina Tamashiro as Marin Tachibana
  • Ryō Yoshizawa as Yū Kusakabe
  • Nanao as Reika Sata
  • Riria Kojima as Namie
  • Rena Takeda as Mayu
  • Ikumi Hisamatsu as Miho

Ryūichi Hiroki (live-action Strobe Edge, Otoko no Isshō) is directing the film. Shooting for the film ended in January.

The story of Wolf Girl & Black Prince centers around Erika Shinohara, a vain 16-year-old girl who tells her friends about her romantic exploits, but she actually has no boyfriend. She claims that a handsome boy in a candid photo is her boyfriend, but it turns out that boy is a schoolmate named Kyōya Sata. She has no choice but to make him her fake boyfriend. Unfortunately, Sata may look like a sweet person, but he is actually an ultra-black-hearted sadist. Sata takes advantage of Erika's weakness and treats her like his dog.

Hatta launched the Wolf Girl & Black Prince (Ōkami Shōjo to Kuro Ōji) shōjo manga in Bessatsu Margaret in 2011, and Shueisha published the 14th compiled volume last November. The film's official website notes that the manga has 4.2 million copies in print.

The manga inspired a 12-episode television anime series starring Kanae Itō as Erika Shinohara and Takahiro Sakurai as Kyōya Sata. The anime premiered in October 2014, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired. Sentai Filmworks will release the anime on home video.

The manga also inspired a novel and a drama CD, the latter of which also starred Itō and Sakurai.
