Tracking Board: Oldboy's Chan-wook Park to Direct Genocidal Organ Film

Project Itoh novel about future terrorism also inspires delayed anime film

Hollywood news website The Tracking Board reported last week that director Chan-wook Park (Oldboy, Thirst, Stoker) will direct a film adaptation of Project Itoh's Genocidal Organ novel. Hollywood producer Sean Daniel (The Mummy film franchise, Everybody Wants Some, upcoming Ben-Hur remake) and The Sean Daniel Company will produce the film.

The Genocidal Organ novel also has a planned anime film adaptation in the works, as part of a planned trilogy adapting Project Itoh novels, including Empire of Corpses and Harmony. The Genocidal Organ anime film was originally slated to premiere last October, and was then delayed to November. However, the studio Manglobe, which was originally animating the film, filed for bankruptcy last September. Geno Studio, a newly formed animation studio, will finish production on the film with director and writer Shukou Murase as well as "other main staff members." The staff plan to complete the film by the end of this year.

Viz Media's Haikasoru imprint released the Genocidal Organ novel in English in 2012. The novel follows American intelligence agent Clavis Shepard as he tracks supposed mastermind terrorist John Paul in a future world wrought with chaos and violence.
