Chika Chika Idol Anime Project Launches Kickstarter Campaign

Anime by Index director Hiroshi Nishikiori slated for November

The official English website for Symphonium's Chika Chika Idol CG anime project announced that the Kickstarter campaign for the project is beginning on Monday.

Symphonium had delayed the project's Kickstarter campaign, which was scheduled to launch earlier this month. A campaign on the Japanese crowdfunding website Makuake launched as planned.

Rewards for the Kickstarter campaign include a digital download of the anime, a limited edition Blu-Ray, a visual book, a live soundtrack CD, graphic T-shirts, an autographed illustration by character designer Mochiko Kagamino, an animated "thank you" clip featuring an idol from the anime, an appearance in the official manga, and dinner with staff, among others.

Symphonium plans to release a 15-minute episode of the anime in Japanese with English subtitles in November if the Kickstarter campaign's goal of US$130,000 is met. If the campaign meets its stretch goal, Symphonium will extend the length to at least 30 minutes and add subtitles in additional languages. Symphonium hopes to turn the project into a series if it is successful.

The story of Chika Chika Idol will follow the everyday lives of Pâtithree, a group of "underground idols." The anime will use a "cell look" style of 3D CG animation that aims to replicate traditional cel animation. The project's Kickstarter page provides a behind-the-scenes look at the anime's production.

The official YouTube channel of the project began streaming an English-subtitled version of the promotional video for the crowdfunding project on February 13.

In addition to the planned anime, the project's official website features a free four-panel manga in English.

The cast of the planned anime includes:

Yasutake Honjo created the concept for the anime and will also serve as producer. Hiroshi Nishikiori (A Certain Magical Index, Azumanga Daioh) will direct the anime, and Wataru Osakabe is in charge of design. Mochiko Kagamino created the character designs, and also draws the manga for the anime's official website. Studio Mouse is handling the anime's voice production management, and F-Sik is behind the 3D CG production.
