Sega announced on Tuesday that it will release Valkyria Chronicles Remastered for PlayStation 4 in the Americas and Europe on May 17. The game will be available both physically and digitally, and will cost US$29.99/CA$44.99.

Sega also began streaming a "warfare" trailer for the game:

The game will feature dual Japanese and English audio, as well as all of the original downloadable content. In the Americas, pre-order and launch copies of the game will come with a collectible metal case.

The game shipped in Japan on February 10. First printings of the game in Japan came with a product code for a "Battle demo version 1.0" of the upcoming game Valkyria: Azure Revolution (Aoki Kakumei no Valkyria), which is slated for winter 2016.

The original Valkyria Chronicles games are set in a fictional reimagining of 1930s Europe. In the first game, the Empire invades the neutral nation of Gallia to claim its resources. The game focuses on the soldiers of Squad 7, a platoon in the Gallian conscript Militia, who fight back the invading Empire. The second and third games in the series focus on different Gallian military units.

Sega released the first Valkyria Chronicles game on the PlayStation 3 in Japan, Europe, and North America in 2008, and released Valkyria Chronicles II on the PlayStation Portable in 2010. Sega also released Valkyria Chronicles III on the PSP in 2011, but did not release it in the West. Sega released Valkyria Chronicles on the PC in November 2014.

The first game in the series inspired a 26-episode television anime series by A-1 Pictures in 2009. The third game inspired a two-episode original video animation in 2011.
