Production I.G's Justin Leach to also attend April 6 event

The Japan Society announced on Friday that scriptwriter Dai Sato and animator/producer Justin Leach will discuss the the anime industry after Hayao Miyazaki's retirement from feature films in 2013 at a talk titled "The State of Japanese Animation in a Post-Miyazaki World."

Sato and Leach will talk about the impact Miyazaki's retirement has had on the anime industry. The main topic at the talk will be "Who will succeed Hayao Miyazaki?" Tickets are available now US$13 for general public and US$10 for Japan Society members, seniors, and students.

Dai Sato served as a scriptwriter for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Ergo Proxy, Five Numbers!, Tekken: Blood Vengeance, Wolf's Rain, Eureka Seven, Cowboy Bebop, and Space Dandy, among others.

Justin Leach began his animation career in college as a comic strip artist. After graduating, he moved on to Blye Sky Studios, where he worked as an animator for several projects including Titan A.E. and Ice Age. Leach began working as a "technical animator" for Production I.G in August 2000, and he is one of the few Americans with personal experience in the anime industry. He has worked on the Last Exile television series, the Ghost in the Shell: Innocence film, the animation sequences in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill, and he served as a producer for Kick-Heart.

"The State of Japanese Animation in a Post-Miyazaki World" is a part of Japan Society's Talks+Program, where experts discuss "vital issues and themes in Modern Japanese art, culture, and design."
